Abbreviating salutations on the Prophet Muhammad sall Allahu a'laihi wa sallam

When writing the name of the holy Prophet Muhammad sall Allahu a'laihi wa sallam it is also necessary to write salutations salaat wa salaam upon him.

According to some scholars it is wajib (compulsory) to write salutations upon him (just as it is compulsory to say sall Allahu a'laihi wa sallam after his name).

(
ad Durr ul Mukhtar, Rad ul Muhtar, Bahaare Sharia'h part 3 page 47 )

Nowadays the majority of people write saad laam meem, a'in meem, and a'in, this is impermissible and extremely forbidden haraam.

And in the same way to write raa dad instead of radi Allahu Ta'la a'nhu or in place of rahmat Allah Ta'ala  a'laihi to write raa and haa.

Also some people with the names Muhammad, Ahmad, Hasan, Husain etc they write saad or a'in after their names this is also prohibited, because in these instances those individual names are intended (not the holy personalities) and there is no meaning in writing such abbreviations after the names.
(
Tahtawi wa ghairah ect).

Imaam Jalal ud Deen as Suyuti as Shafi' radi Allahu Ta'la a'nhu said:

"The person who initiated abbreviating the salaat wa salaam upon the Prophet Muhammad sall Allahu a'laihi wa sallam hand was severed (cut off) ".

Shaykh Ahmad bin Shihaab ud Deen bin Hajr al Haythami al Makki radi Allahu Ta'la a'nhu states in al Fatawaa al Hadithiyah:

"like this after the name of the Rasool "sall Allahu a'laihi wa sallam" should be written as this is the way of the Salaf pious predecessors rahimahumullahu.  When writing salutations on the should not be abbreviated like sala'm saad laam a'in meem because this is the way of the people who are devoid (of Allah A'zza wa Jall's mercy)".
