Problem area is usually a broad statement which is more or less generalized type. E.g. Color scheme's affect sales.

2) Identify the problem

Here you need to identify the exact problem for which research is being carried out E.g.: Block color fabrics are having reduced sales.

3) Problem statement

Write down your problem in question form: E.g. Customers dislike block color fabric. Why ?

4) Identify the possible factors affecting the color scheme

Simply place yourself in buying position and think what influences your decision. E.g. your personality, your perception, color combinations etc.

5) Formulate the hypothesis on the basis of identified factors

Here you need to create a hypothesis starting with the factor and the effect it has. Every single factor will have a specific effect. I am unable to put down example because it depends on the factors you choose.
