Master of Business Studies (MBS) leading to MBA (equivalent to MS) / MS in Business Administration

 

The MBS program offered by the Department of Management Sciences is in-line with the roadmap for business studies approved by National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC) and curriculum revised by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. After successful completion of the program, candidates can become eligible for taking admission to MBA/MSBA.  The program bridges the gap for the candidates who have not taken business courses during their 2-year Bachelor's degree (14-year education) or equivalent degree from a recognized university/institution and now intend to pursue education in the area of business studies. The program is equivalent to old MBA (16-year education).

 

Admission Eligibility Criteria for MBS Program:

 

Candidates having 14-year education [BA/B.Sc./B.Com or equivalent Bachelor's degree] from a recognized university/institute with at least 45% marks or CGPA 2.00 out of 4 are eligible to apply.

 

Note: candidates having less than 45% in their graduation from a recognized university / institute can be eligible to apply for MBS admission after successful completion of "Zero Semester".

 

 

Award of MBS Degree:

 

To be eligible for the award of Master of Business Studies, candidates are required to complete at least 73 credit hours prescribed course work program by attending minimum 4-semesters with at least Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.30 out of 4.

 

COURSES OF STUDY

The scheme of studies for MBS program is outlined as under. The courses may be revised time to time as a result of continuous review to bring them at par with courses from being taught at top-class foreign universities. While reviewing the courses needs of local industry and job market are also given full consideration:

Assessment of Study Progress:

 

The evaluation of students' study progress for MBS Program is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester by giving assignments, on-line quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards, mid-term and final-term examinations. The mid-term and final-term exams are conducted at VU's designated exam centers and usually count 80 to 85% of the total marks of a course.

 

Candidature (Admission) towards MBA/MSBA Program after acquiring MBS degree:

 

 

Candidates intend to continue MBA/MSBA would be required to achieve CGPA 2.50 out of 4 upon completion of MBS prescribed course work and may be required to qualify GAT General Test (with minimum 50% marks).

 

Award of Degree:

 

 

MBA-Master of Business Administration (1.5-year / 3-semester) degree (equivalent to MS):

 

Candidates are required to complete prescribed course work (at least 37-credit hours) by attending minimum 3-semesters with at least CGPA 3.00 out of 4.

Note: Research Thesis will not be offered to students taking MBA track.

 

MSBA-Master of Science in Business Administration (1.5-year / 3-semester) degree:

 

Candidates are required to complete prescribed course work (at least 31-credit hours) plus Research Thesis (6-credit hours) by attending minimum 3-semesters with at least CGPA 3.00 out of 4.

Areas of Specialization:

 

A student must qualify at least four courses from an area of selected specialization.

 

Research Thesis:

 

In order to enroll for research thesis, students must have achieved at least CGPA 3.25 out of 4 upon completion of 2nd semester's courses comprising 24 credit hours course work.
